Thursday, September 29th at 12 noon: 

Dr. Sarah Varekojis, Director of Clinical Education at OSU will present: “Accomplishing a Shared Goal: Partnerships for Excellent Clinical Education.”  Managers and educators have a shared goal: to develop more respiratory therapists.  To accomplish this goal, we all need to recognize the interdependent nature of clinical education and the need for collaborative strategies.  Sarah will discuss how hospital departments and education programs can support each other’s investment in effective clinical education to produce successful, committed graduates.

Wednesday, October 19th at 12 noon: 

Robert Wilson, Manager, and Nicole Wagner, Director of Respiratory Care Services, Promedica Toledo Hospital and Ebeid’s Children’s Hospital will present: “Limited Permit Holders’ Role:  Pros, Cons, Limits and Risks.   The OSRC’s 2021 Workforce Survey identified that 19.4% of Ohio RC managers were allowing their LPHs to participate in some level of protocol-based care delivery.  This presentation will explore the pros and cons of employing LPHs, particularly in protocol-based care delivery. What are the legal limitations, supervision requirements, and ways to mitigate risk?  

Thursday, November 17th at 12 noon:

Travis Collins, Director of Respiratory Care, The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati will present: Recruitment and Retention:  A Respiratory Care Manager’s Guide to Develop an Engaged Department.  Travis will

review methods that provide opportunities to foster a therapist’s growth and development, discuss the importance of having meaningful protocols that are supported by the medical team, and demonstrate the importance of accountability and oversite and how it relates to staff satisfaction & engagement.

Tuesday, January 17th at 12 noon:

Ryan Cutro, MS RRT-AACS, Respiratory Care Enterprise Education Program Coordinator, CCF, will present: “Competency Assessment:  Strategies for Success”.  This presentation will discuss strategies for completing effective and efficient competency assessment.  Ryan will explore competency goals, process, identification, and verification methods for providing a successful competency program and delve into utilizing multiple learning platforms (in-person, LMS, Simulation-lab), augmenting logistics to provide efficient use of staff and time, and cultivating strong staff communication. 

Tuesday, February 7th at 12 noon: 

Sue Ciarlariello, MBA RRT-NPS FAARC, OSRC Legislative Chair 2013-2022, will present: “Managing Graduate Limited Permit Holders: How to Improve RRT Exam Success and Avoid Suspension as Limited Permit Expires”.  CoVID delayed the 2020 license and limited permit renewals during the pandemic.  It also interrupted in-person didactic and clinical education.  Many graduates delayed taking exams due to heavy work schedules. In October 2021, the Medical Board changed their license and permit renewals.  This has resulted in confusion about LPH expiration dates. This lecture will address this confusion, the fixes, and how to reduce RRT exam failures for your new grads.

Thursday, March 9th at 12 noon: 

Dr. Sarah Varekojis, Director of Clinical Education at OSU, will present:Update on Advanced Practice Respiratory Therapists Licensing.” As the OSRC moves forward with APRT legislation in this new Legislative Session, we will need the support of all members to inform their students, staff, hospital administration, medical providers, and local legislators on the role and need for these new practitioners.  This presentation will update you as to the current definition of their clinical role, the value they bring to the clinical care team, and the impact on recruitment into the RT profession.
