    Position Summary

    The Respiratory Director is responsible for the overall management, coordination, and supervision of the Respiratory Therapy Department. This leader will ensure the delivery of high-quality respiratory care services, oversee department operations, support staff development, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to achieve outstanding clinical outcomes.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Direct and oversee all respiratory therapy services within the facility

    • Supervise, schedule, mentor, and evaluate Respiratory Therapists and department staff

    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations, policies, and procedures

    • Develop and maintain respiratory care protocols and clinical standards

    • Monitor resident respiratory status and ensure appropriate respiratory interventions are implemented

    • Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams regarding resident care plans

    • Oversee ventilator management programs, oxygen therapy, tracheostomy care, and respiratory treatments

    • Participate in quality assurance, infection prevention, and performance improvement initiatives

    • Ensure proper maintenance, cleaning, and regulatory compliance of respiratory equipment

    • Manage department inventory, supplies, and equipment needs

    • Assist with staff education and competency training related to respiratory care

    • Support admissions and clinical evaluations for residents requiring respiratory services

    • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure department readiness for surveys and audits

    Qualifications

    Education & Experience

    • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program

    • Minimum of 2 years of Respiratory Therapy experience preferred

    • Previous leadership, supervisory, or management experience preferred

    • Long-term care, skilled nursing, ventilator, or subacute experience strongly preferred

    Licensure

    • Active State Respiratory Care Practitioner License

    • CRT or RRT credential required

    Essential Functions

    1. Performs patient assessments and recommends treatment modalities
    2. Utilizes critical thinking regarding priority of work, changes in patient condition,
      evaluating patient’s response to care and emergency situations
    3. Consults with physicians to recommend changes in therapy, based on evaluation of the
      patient.
    4. Performs punctures to obtain blood specimens and blood gas analysis to evaluate the
      amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide and the acid-base balance, or pH, for diagnosis and
      monitoring of different medical conditions.
    5. Responds to all rapid response and cardiopulmonary arrest alerts/codes and performs
      cardiopulmonary resuscitation and airway care.
    6. Administers respiratory care modalities and maintains knowledge and competencies of
      various methods of respiratory care delivery, including equipment, medications, etc.
    7. Understands and communicates the possible complications associated with the
      procedures.

    REQUIREMENTS
    Minimum Education:
    Graduate of an approved Respiratory Care program, Associate’s in Science or Associate’s
    in Applied Science program.
    New respiratory care graduate program

    Preferred Education:
    Graduate of an approved Respiratory Care program, bachelor’s in science.

    Licensure/Certification:

    • Registered through the National Board of Respiratory Care
    • Respiratory Care license through Ohio Medical Board
    • BLS, ACLS, PALS and NRP Certifications

    Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

    As a Respiratory Therapist, you will provide high quality cardiopulmonary and respiratory care to residents in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation setting.

    Duties Include:

    • Assess, interview, and examine patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions
    • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop respiratory treatment plans
    • Manage respiratory therapy treatments and interventions
    • Monitor patient progress and document clinical outcomes
    • Educate residents, families, and staff on respiratory treatments and equipment usage
    • Operate and maintain respiratory therapy equipment including ventilators, oxygen concentrators, CPAP/BIPAP machines, and airway management equipment

    Qualifications

    • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy required
